Ingredients
- 1 large Pineapple, some skin left on, cut into strips
- 1 large Lemon, quartered
- Optional: 1/2 of a large Orange
- Ginger Root, 4 fingers/chunks, roughly chopped
- Turmeric Root, 2-3 big fingers, roughly chopped
- Black Pepper, freshly ground
Instructions
- Juicer: To the juicer, add the individual ingredient pieces one-by-one. I like to alternate so things don’t get stuck.
- Blender: To the blender, add the ingredients and blend on high until well combined. (Depending on your blender, you may need to remove all of the peel from the fruit first). If you have trouble blending, then just add a bit of water to help it out.
- Strain: With a glass 4-cup measuring cup and small fine mesh strainer, slowly strain the juice in batches. I like to use a spoon to push the juice through the pulp that is present, discarding the pulp as I go. Once all the juice is strained into the 4-cup glass, dump it back into the juicing container that it started in. Repeat this straining process two or three more times.
- Black pepper: Grind anywhere from 10-20 grinds (or just a handful of shakes from a container) of black pepper into the juice and give it a good stir.
- Add to bottles: Using a funnel, pour the juice into individual shot bottles. Be sure to not let the funnel sit flush again the bottle or it will create a seal and the juice won’t flow freely. Let it just barely hover in the mouth of the glass without fully touching it. Any leftovers would be great to store in these airtight glass bowls.
- Storage: This juice should last up to a week or more in the refrigerator.
Notes
- Use all organic ingredients.
- Pineapple: To prep the pineapple, cut the top and bottom off. Depending on your tools, you can either cut all the outer skin off, leave some, or leave it all. (For me, it all depends on ripeness of the pineapple. I notice that some skin helps push the pineapple through the juicer better. Plus it adds more nutrients). *Be sure to leave the skin on all of the other fruits along with the ginger and turmeric.
- Ginger and black pepper: I like my wellness shots spicy. So use this as a guide. Start out small and then go from there.
- If you don’t have a juicer, a high powered blender can also work. Then to strain the pulp just use something like a nut milk bag. (FYI: It will stain, though).
- Wear gloves. I like to wear gloves to protect my skin from the turmeric. Be aware, you will want to clean up all of your kitchen tools right away. If you let the juicer parts sit in your nice white sink, the turmeric will stain your sink. So, quick clean up is crucial.
- Orange: This is an optional add on. If I have one laying around then I use it, but generally I just stick to pineapple and lemon.
- Servings: I can usually get anywhere from 8-14, 2 ounce bottles.
