What You Need To Know About This Vanilla Bean Simple Syrup:

The most important thing you need to know about this Vanilla Bean Coffee Simple Syrup is the vanilla. There are no shortcuts here. You will need a vanilla bean. And, when it’s time to make the syrup, all you need to do is split it open with a knife, and scrape out the seeds.

This syrup is absolutely delicious! And, when mixed with espresso and milk it becomes the best latte you will ever have.

Sweetener Options:

Once upon a time, I would use cane sugar for this recipe. However, I have since changed to using only coconut sugar. Coconut sugar is a plant-based, anti-inflammatory sweetener, that has a low-glycemic index. So it’s a way better option for me.

For those that have never had coconut sugar, you are in for a treat. When it comes to the flavor, this sugar tastes most like brown sugar. It has a nice toasty, caramel-like flavor to it, and can be substituted at a 1:1 ratio with sugar. Honestly, I love it more than cane sugar. It is so good!

Instructions

  1. Make the simple syrup: In a medium saucepan combine sugar and water. Bring to a boil, stirring, until sugar has dissolved.
  2. Add the vanilla bean: With a sharp knife, split the vanilla bean in half and scrape out the seeds. Add the vanilla bean and seeds to the saucepan and give it a light stir.
  3. Discard: Remove from the heat and allow to cool completely. Discard the vanilla bean.
  4. Refrigerate: Pour the syrup into a glass jar and seal with a tight fitting lid. Simple syrup will keep, refrigerated, for about a month.

Notes

  • Sugar: Feel free to use either cane sugar or coconut sugar. Coconut sugar is unrefined and is the healthier option. However, both work well for this recipe.
  • Vanilla: If you don’t have/or can’t get a hold of a vanilla bean, then use 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract instead.
